Controlling a Radio Control Helicopter with an iPhone

Control a RC Helicopter using iPhone

What can you possibly do with an iPhone? Play games, surf the internet, listen to music, take photos and of course make phone calls. But it is just amazing to see what Joshua Ziering has used iPhone for. He took an iPhone, a radio-controlled helicopter, a Wi-Fi router and mixed it up with the iPhone’s accelerometer and touch interface to built a R/C helicopter controller. He made a custom software for “flight interface” on the iPhone. Watch the video below to see the iPhone controlled R/C helicopter in action.

Now stick a camera on that bad boy so you get a pilots view while flying and you're laughing all the way to the bank!

    fake …

as a helicopter hobbyist, I can tell you this program is missing lots of things, where are the controls for rudder and gaz … also how is he mixing the gaz curve and pitch on his iPhone … controlling a rc helicopter is much more complicate than controlling the swashplate (but this is a good idea)

this helicopter is expensive and not the best to test this program, also for a first fly, the pilot wouldn't have missed to use a training landing kit which cost less than 10$ …

I bet there is someone with the transmitter behind …

    FAKE!
As someone that builds UAV’s im saying this.
The whole part about the servos, IF hes controlling them via a pwm signal as claimed there would be no control line, ie they would not return to center also the resolution would be next to usless.
Theres no mixing or throttle control, with the additional weight (of the “router”) this would be essential just to get off the ground.

Whilst this is a great idea the iphone is a limited platform for a project like this, a coaxial yeah sure but a rex-450 your joking.

If this guy was a real pro, hes not anymore no one’s going to sponsor a bull$hit artist like that, thats the real lesson to learn here.
