Android smartphone fans have pounced on leaked pictures that purport to show the front cover of the new Samsung Galaxy S8, with many surprised more by what may be missing from the device than by what could be included.
What Will It Feature?
Without the home button, Samsung will have to move the phone’s fingerprint sensor and it appears that it will now be located on the back of the device, next to the camera. The possibility of accidentally leaving greasy fingerprints on the lens will horrify many, but the move is expected to benefit the majority of users who hold their phone with their right hand, allowing them to naturally press down as they pick up the device.
Some Android fanatics who have seen the pictures were also intrigued by what seems to be an opening for a second selfie camera at the top of the infinity screen. There appear to be two circular holes in the case to the right-hand side, usually the location of a single front-facing camera.
What Won’t It Feature?
As confirmed last year, the S8 will follow in the footsteps of Apple’s iPhone 7 and ditch the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, but it also seems like the Korean firm’s new release will ship without a home button too. On the evidence of the latest pictures that claim to show components of the S8, its huge screen, which curves neatly around both sides, appears to take up almost all of the front of the phone.
There is also some debate as to whether the expected virtual navigation controls, including the home button, will be permanent on-screen features or whether they will disappear when not needed, allowing the app being used to make the most of the full display.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date
The Samsung Galaxy the S8 will be released in March or April, when fans will be able to find out exactly what the company has created. The pressure is on for Samsung to produce something spectacular after the PR disaster it suffered with the Galaxy Note 7, which had to be recalled following reports of batteries exploding.
The S8 will come in two sizes – the 5.8in regular model and the 6.2in S8 Plus. Both are expected to offer increased battery life and iris-scanner technology.
