How to Clear Cydia Cache

What is Cydia?

Cydia is an iOS application manager specifically for third party apps. With Cydia, you can install many applications that can benefit your iPhone, iPad and iPod and increase its productivity. The applications that you can download can be anything from games to productivity apps. However, in order to install Cydia to your iDevices, you will need to jailbreak it first.

Cydia Problems

Cydia can be a great tool for your iPhone or iPad but there are some issues with this application that needs maintenance. If you have been using Cydia for quite a while now, you may notice that this application tends to become slower and loading of its functions takes longer now. There are some ways on how you can make this application run faster again.

Reducing Cydia Content

If your Cydia has too much content, this may be one of the reasons why your Cydia is becoming slower or it takes too long to load. You have to reduce the content on some of its sections to speed up your Cydia. You can do this by going to the Sections tab and hit edit. Make sure that you turn off the sections that you don’t want to see. After doing this, you can press “Done”. It is better if you will limit the content to just the important ones.

Clearing Cydia Source Cache

Another way to speed up your Cydia is to clear its cache. Usually, your Cydia cache will include partially downloaded apps, obsolete files, deleted cookies and more. Everything in the cache needs to be cleared in order for Cydia to perform its task without any delay. Here are some steps that you can follow to clear your Cydia cache.

Steps to Clear Cydia Cache

First, you will need to go to /private/etc/apt/sources.list.d to completely delete the files with the repository that is present in the filename. Go ahead and open cydia.list and delete lines which contain repos url. After doing this, you can save it. The next step is to go to /private/var/lib/apt/list in order to delete the files with repositories name in the filename. Go to /private/var/lib/apt/list/partial and get rid of all filenames that have repositories. The last step is to go to /private/var/lib/cydia to edit metadata.plist by looking for the line with repositories name on it and deleting it right away. Do not forget to save the file. After doing all these steps, your Cydia should be running fast now.
