Ever wanted to take HDR photos on your iPhone? Now you can.
All the HDR photography fans out there, rejoice. We will now be able to take HDR photos right off our iPhone with little or no hassle. This features is available in the iOS 4.1 firmware version of the iPhone. However you have to enable it first.
Here is how you can enable High Dynamic Range Photography feature on the iPhone. Tutorial Courtesy of RedmondPie.com.
- First of all, you will need a jailbroken iPhone. If you would like to know how to jailbreak your iPhone, follow this link.
- Once your iPhone is Jailbroken, you will have to install OpenSSH on it via Cydia. Do a search for ‘OpenSSH‘ and install the package.
- Now you will need to SSH into your iPhone. Use WinSCP if you have Windows or Cyberduck/Transmit if you have Mac. The default SSH username/password combination for iPhone SSH is root/alpine respectively. The IP address of the iPhone can found by going to Settings >> Wi-Fi >> “Access Point Name” and then clicking on the little arrow on the right of it.
- After that, look for the following files in your respective device.
iPhone 3G: /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist
iPhone 3Gs: /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N88AP.plist
- Now under the “Capabilities” section of the property list file which you’re going to edit, add “hdr-image-capture” and set it’s boolean value to “true”.
- Save the file and replace the original with this new edited file.
- Reboot and Check your Camera App. You will now be able to see HDR settings which means that you have successfully enabled HDR Photography on your iPhone.
